The steps to get this information by sms is pretty simple. Visit the site http://www.epfindia.com/ & click on Know Your EPF Balance
The next informative screen describes the details of the data to be provided for the system to fetch the information.
Select the PF Office State from the dropdown provided on the screen below
On selection of the state the screen refreshes to provide the list of PF offices in the state. Click on the one to which your account belongs to.
If you don't know which office it belongs to then select the "Search your establishment code here" link as provided in the screen. You can decide to search on any criteria given in the screen below
Your payslip/form 16 would be master reference document to get the PF/Establishment code/extension number/exact name and should be kept handy while filling in the screen below
And input your mobile number, click on I Agree & submit. You should get an sms in few minutes. In case you do not get the PF number right then it shows an error indicating that the PF number is incorrect. You can try a few combinations to get it right.
The SMS reads as " EPF Balance in A/C No. RegionCode / Office Code / EstablishmentCode / ExtensionCode / PfNumber is EE Amt:Rs XXX, ER Amt:Rs. ZZZZ as on DD-MM-YY (Accounts updated upto DD-MM-YYYY)-EPFO"
EE represents the Employee Contribution & ER represents Employer Contribution as on the said date.
